Rowney Sharman were identified by Transport & Technical Services as having the necessary skill set to undertake the role of Programme & Procurement Managers with the main target of ensuring the successful completion of this fast-track project within a six month time period. The role comprises the management of eight specific works packages:-
The whole site has been capped to ensure that none of the historic contaminated land will affect the park users, albeit the majority of contaminated soil has already been removed and shipped to Holland, one of only three jurisdictions in the world with the authority to deal with such waste.
Included in the park will be a waterfield plaza, a water curtain, a children's play area, a sports practice area, pétanque pitches and a utility building which will house public toilets and all necessary supporting plant and equipment.
Approximately 5,100 sq metres of lawn, 4,200 sq metres of hard landscaping, sculptures by local artists, wireless internet provision and full CCTV coverage will complete the picture. In order to comply with environmental obligations a huge water holding tank is being installed to supply the extensive irrigation system.
Completion of the park is due in October this year with the streetscape programmed to be finished by the end of 2011.
